Appointments System

During the Covid-19 pandemic the doctors will telephone triage all patients in the first instance. If they wish to see a patient face to face they will offer a time for this.

Please telephone the reception desk to make an appointment. Please make a separate appointment for each person. We would ask for your patience and understanding at this difficult time.

Teaching/Training Practice

Teaching

As a teaching practice of the University of Nottingham, there are times when medical students will be with us. If your consultation is during these times you will be advised by the reception team that they will be part of your consultation. Please advise the reception team member when you arrive if this will cause you a concern as we can very easily make alternative arrangements to allow for you to have a one to one consultation with your doctor.

Training

GP Registrars are doctors who qualified more than 2 years ago. They have already worked in hospital for those 2 years and most have other experiences in hospital or general practice in addition to this.

The GP registrar is now on a 3 year GP training programme based at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, at the end of which they will be assessed for Membership of the Royal Collegeof General Practitioners (MRCGP) and will then be able to practice independantly as a GP.

Matlock and Ashover Practice is one of the 17 practices in North Derbyshire accredited to teach and train GP registrars.

The GP registrar is fully qualified and is able to make diagnoses and offer treatments as any GP is able to do. At the end of each surgery one of the experienced GPs goes through any difficulties the GP registrar may have had to help with their training. Sometimes the GP registrar will ask one of the experienced GPs to come and see the patinet as well, if they are unsure about something.

As part of their assessments, the GP registrars have to video some consultations to show the experienced GPs how well they communicate with patients. We will let you know and gain your consent if we are doing this but you are within your rights to say that you do not want this to happen.

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:00. You may receive a telephone call from the GP prior to the visit.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.
