DR SIMON THEAKSTON (PARTNER)

I was born in Liverpool a long time ago and studied at Leicester University. I worked as an Army GP until 2010 when I joined the practice in Matlock. I have been a partner since 2011. I enjoy dermoscopy and minor surgery and have an interest in ENT problems. I am also a GP Trainer to our GP Registrars. Outside work I like spending time with my family, getting out for long walks with the dogs and skiing badly.

I was born in Kent, but raised in Yorkshire. I went to the University of Nottingham and graduated in 2010. I completed my GP training in Chesterfield and started working as a salaried doctor in Matlock in 2015. I became a partner in 2018. I enjoy all aspects of general practice, and have a real interest in medical education; training up new GPs as well as introducing medical students to the variety and excitement of community medicine. Outside of work I love to travel and see the world. Otherwise I spend time with my extended family and (weather permitting) going for long walks and picnics in the peaks.

I was born in Zimbabwe and gained my medical qualification from the University of Zimbabwe. I completed my foundation training in Harare. After this, I immigrated to Derbyshire and worked as a speciality doctor in the Emergency Department for 5 years before moving to General practice. I have worked at Matlock and Ashover surgery since finishing GP training and became a partner in 2021. I love to run, play tennis and am kept busy by my very active young family.

I was born in Birmingham and did my medicine degree at Sheffield. I trained at Matlock and Ashover Practice and stayed here afterwards, becoming a partner in 2022. I am the palliative care and IT lead and enjoy teaching and training. Outside of work I like technology, spending time with my family and attempting poor quality DIY.
DR JOHN VERNON (PARTNER)

I studied Medicine at the University of Nottingham and trained in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, qualifying as a GP in 2020. I joined Matlock and Ashover Practice in 2022 and became a partner the following year. I currently have a lead role for our dispensary at Ashover, represent the practice in our primary care network, and have an interest in joint injections and minor operations. I have a young family and we spend as much time as possible in the hills or at the coast, adventuring in our motorhome or under canvas.

I grew up in West Yorkshire and went to Medical School in Birmingham, moving to Sheffield for Foundation training. I started working in Matlock as a GP in 2019. My interests are cardiology and women's health. Outside of work I enjoy spending time in the Peak District with my family.

I trained and spent the first 13 years of my GP career in Nottingham before moving to Derbyshire. My special interest is Women's and Sexual Health including menopause management and coil fitting. When I'm not at work I can usually be found climbing one of the Peak District Ethels with my dog Pip, running around after our three children, writing poetry or at a ballet class.

I started my working life as a mathematician and have somehow ended up as a doctor. I enjoy all aspects of General Practice, but have a particular interest in musculoskeletal and palliative medicine. I worked at Ashgate Hospice for many years. I love running and have previously competed for England in the World Mountain cup races. I enjoy spending time with my family and our menagerie of animals.

I was born in Sudan and gained my medical qualification from the University of Medical Sciences and Technology in Sudan. I did my internship there and then moved to the United Arab Emirates for a few years. I did my GP training in chesterfield, UK and Immediately after that I started working for Imperial Road Surgery and Ashover medical centre in 2021. In my free time I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family.

Having grown up in Sheffield I started my working life as a dietitian, before going on to do post graduate medicine at Birmingham. I have a particular interest in nutrition, mental health and women’s health. I love working in the Peak District, and get outdoors and go climbing as often as I can.
